Rare STAR TREK NEXT GENERATION Type-2 Laser Pointer Prop Replica IPI Toys

Image is of the actual prop replica for sale

In 1996 American toy company IPI Toys produced a limited edition run of officially licensed Star Trek: The Next Generation Type-2 Phaser laser pointers.

I believe this were limited to 10,000 (but I”m not 100% sure on that).

They came in a beautiful red velvet lined box together with a Certificate of Authenticity and instructions on how to use the laser pointer.

The pointer itself can be fired with or without a sound effect.

Watch a video demonstration (the one in the video is not the one that’s for sale):

Today your chances of getting one of these is fairly remote. You have to wait until an existing owner puts one up for sale.

Fortunately that’s what this post is about because that’s what has just happened.

A seller has put one of these numbered #1018 up for auction on Ebay.

The starting bid is $300 but I’m sure it’ll go for much more than that – these are seriously rare and highly sought after ST:TNG collector’s items.

If you want to snap this up by bidding on it the link to check it out is below:

Nerf Vortex Proton Blaster

Normally I never post a weapon that isn’t a replica from a movie, TV series, video game or comic. But today I’m breaking my own rule because after staring in amazement at the images of this modified Nerf vortex proton blaster I just had to post it.

If you didn’t know, Nerf is a toy brand owned by Hasbro that produces mostly foam based toy weaponry. Those toys are made of plastic and they fire foam bullets. You can find them on Amazon .

In the following image you can see a comparison of the original toy versus what it now looks like thanks to some incredible professional custom modification work:

Custom-Nerf-Vortex-Proton-Blaster

Seriously, that’s just outright amazing. If you didn’t see the toy in the first place you’d have absolutely no idea that this isn’t a full metal weapon.

The seller refers to this as the ‘Blade Runner’ special custom heavy metal version. It features a brushed metal weathered look derived from 4 coats of paint and a matte finish to protect the paint.

Like the original toy this gun can still fire Nerf foam discs, 3 of which are included.

The workmanship is clearly studio grade judging by the images and as claimed in the product listing. Interestingly, the seller states the pictures don’t do the blaster justice and that most buyers are more impressed by the real-life prop than by these images. If that’s true then this is certainly an impressive weapon to add to your sci-fi weapon collection. It’s a toy made for firing too, so I don’t see why it couldn’t be used for cosplay or even LARP.

At only $39.99 it’s a mere $20 more than the standard retail price of the toy which blows my mind.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS Starfleet Phaser Replica (1)

Here’s a limited edition special Star Trek Into Darkness gift set that includes a Quantum Mechanix replica phaser.

If you’re wondering why I put a ? on the end of this title it’s because I’m not 100% certain that this is a Star Trek Into Darkness phaser replica. It might be although it looks exactly like the QMx replica phaser based on the stunt weapon used in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 film Star TrekIf so, that’s not a bad thing either since the same weapon is going for $100 on Ebay.

Or it might simply be the same design or extremely similar as used in the new film. Either way here’s a few more images:

It comes packaged with a pre-order of the Star Trek Into Darkness 3D Blu-ray – amazing to see this up for sale already given the film was only just released in theaters.

Coming in January is EE’s exclusive Diamond Select produced Gold Handle Type 2 Star Trek phaser.

Just like the original phaser, this replica includes a Type-1 detachable mini hand-phaser that separates from the original Type-2 pistol.

This prop includes realistic beam lights, sound effects, and adjustable power settings. To activate the sound, you must remove the plastic display tab and turn on the hand phaser. This is done by clicking the far right dial forward toward the front of the pistol. To trigger the lights, rotate the front dial forward.

Measures 9 1/2-inches long x 9 1/2-inches tall x 3-inches wide.

The exclusive aspect of this phaser replica is that you can only get it from Entertainment Earth and nowhere else.

Yes, it’s identical to the White Handle Type-2 Phaser, except of course for the color of the handle.

STAR TREK EE Exclusive Classic Gold Handle Type 2 Phaser (Diamond Select, $44.99)

Now this is a pretty sweet Star Trek weapon replica coming in January for a pretty low price of only $44.99.

It’s Diamond Select’s officially licensed and authentic looking EE Exclusive Star Trek White Handle Type-2 Phaser modeled off the initial Star Trek prop.

Looking for a prop replica of the Star Trek Original Series Phaser? Then don’t look past this.

In terms of price, Art Asylum’s Star Trek Original Series Phaser Prop Replica (pictured above) is definitely now at the top of the list for best value for money Original Series phasers around. That’s because Amazon has knocked a whopping 37% off what they’ve got in stock! Once $199, you can get it right now for only $124.99. That’s an absolute bargain that I’ve been unable to find matched anywhere else and well worth it when you consider the fact that this particular phaser has long been out of production.

How accurate is this? Well, there’s usually a bit of a debate when it comes to the accuracy of Star Trek phaser prop replicas. Often there’s confusion between what is ‘screen accurate’ and what is ‘set accurate’. As in, what did it look like on set versus what did the phaser look like on screen.

In the case of Art Asylum’s phaser, there’s no debate that it is definitely set accurate since this exact prop replica was used as a prop in the Enterprise Season 4 Episode 18: In a Mirror Darkly.

Get it at the link below:

Of course, there is also Buy It Now listing on Ebay for one of these at $109. The seller claims it is new and unopened, however no images have been uploaded. Still, if it’s legit, you may want to check it out by giving the Seller a message.

If you’re keen to lay your hands on a STAR TREK VI Klingon Beak Nose Disruptor you’ve probably found it pretty hard to do. Roddenberry’s Klingon Beak Nose Disruptor is now sold out from most sources, though Secret Compass Collectibles still have one in stock (as at the timing of this post) for a price of $279.95 (not bad, considering the original price was $299).

But if a little less expenditure is your thing, say in the area of $50 or so, you might want to check out Diamond Select’s new Klingon Beak Nose Disruptor.

Sure, it’s not a hand painted resin prop replica like Roddenberry’s version, but it is still pretty cool looking. It’s also 1:1 scale and designed for role play which, to be fair, you wouldn’t want to do with Roddenberry’s Disruptor. It also has electronic sounds and lights to go with the role play experience.

You can pre-order these right now.

The best price I’ve found is via Entertainment Earth, with Amazon having them listed only slightly dearer. The links you need are below:

Star Trek Klingon Disruptor Gun Prop Replica (Diamond Select) via Entertainment Earth $49.99

Star Trek Klingon Disruptor Gun Prop Replica (Diamond Select) via Amazon $54.99

Coming from Roddenberry in February 2012 is an accurate phaser prop replica from STAR TREK III: THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK.

This awesome life-size phaser replica, produced by the artisans at HMS Studios from the original casting created by Industrial Light and Magic, features digital sound effects, screen-accurate LED light effects, and removable Type I Phaser..

It comes with an exclusive display stand and certificate of authenticity.

It’ll set you back $599.99. Check it out at the link below:

UPDATE: I’ve left the original link in below to show where I got my info from, but as of this update this phaser is unavailable.
